Boston 105 @ New Jersey 85 IZOD Centre
The Boston Celtics wasted no time dispatching the New Jersey Nets in this rematch in New Jersey. Ray Allen had 25 points for the Celtics, while Paul Peirce and Eddie House added 13 each. Kevin Garnett and Leon Powe added 12 a piece. Rajon Rondo dished 14 assists. Nets coach Lawrence Frank benched his two franchise stars, Devin Harris and Vince Carter, for the whole of the second half, while the Celtics were allowed to walk all over the Nets. Brook Lopez led with 28 points, while Jarvis Hayes had 15. Vince Carter said after the game that he understood Frank’s decision, and was upset with himself for the result.
Portland 97 @ Charlotte 102 Time Warner Cable Arena
When Gerald Wallace does a All-Star weekend caliber dunk over the top of 7-footer Greg Oden, you know you’ve got a good game. Despite the fact that the game went into overtime, that dunk is all the media wants to talk about. Anyway, the Charlotte Bobcats did indeed win against the Portland Trailblazer in overtime. Gerald Wallace finished with 31 points and 16 points, while Emeka Okafor went with 22 points and 11 rebounds in the win. For the Blazers, LaMarcus Aldridge had 21 points, and Brandon Roy had 17 points, but shot poorly.
New Orleans 91 @ Detroit 85 Palace at Auburn Hills
The night after suffering an embarrassing loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder, the Detroit Pistons again couldn’t get the job done, losing to the New Orleans Hornets. Chris Paul made up for his poor performance against LeBron James and the Cavaliers, finishing with 23 points and 14 assists. David West added 20 for the Hornets, and Tyson Chandler earned 11 points and 11 rebounds. Richard Hamilton led the Pistons with 20 points, but lacked the support to end the Pistons longest losing streak since acquiring Rasheed Wallace in 2004. To make things worse, with Hamilton and Tayshaun Prince playing injured, Allen Iverson appeared to injure his knee. He was able to continue, but claims that he has no idea how it will heal.
Philadelphia 107 @ New York 97 Madison Square Garden
Just before halftime, the Philadelphia 76ers got the lead for good. And they got it in an interesting way – a hybrid alley-oop and 3 pointer by Andre Iguodala. Iguodala had 28 points and 10 rebounds to help his team reach .500 and enter many people’s playoff calculations. Andre Miller added 27 points and Louis Williams had 15. Al Harrington had 26 points, while Quentin Richardson had 19 and Wilson Chandler had 17. The sixth pick of the 2008 draft, Danilo Gallinari, made his 3rd appearance of the season, returning from injury, and scored 6 points. Elton Brand is expected to return for the Sixers within the next week.
San Antonio 92 @ Chicago 87 United Centre
The San Antonio Spurs needed to crack down defensively. So they did. Tony Parker scored 20 points and 8 assists to help the Spurs defeat the Chicago Bulls in Chicago. Tim Duncan added 18 points and 14 rebounds for the win and Manu Ginobili had 21 points. For the Bulls, Andris Nocioni had 17 points and 15 rebounds, and Ben Gordon had 20 points. The Spurs held Chicago rookie Derrick Rose to 12 points.
Miami 86 @ Houston 93 Toyota Center
Yao Ming shot 100% from the field, and the short-handed Rockets defeated the Miami Heat in Houston. The ‘Great Wall’ shot 12-12 from the field, and only missed one free throw to finish with 26 points and 10 rebounds. Rafer Alston added 22 points to the Rockets tally. For the Heat, Dwayne Wade finished with 29, and Shawn Marion added 20.
Utah 108 @ Dallas 115 American Airlines Centre
Dirk Nowitzki doesn’t like the Jazz. In most recent meetings, Nowitzki has been ejected or suspended after the game. He avoided that fate this time around, and helped Dallas end a 4 game losing streak, with 39 points. Jason Kidd finished with 11 points and 15 rebounds, Jason Terry had 22 and Brandon Bass had 17 to help the Mavs to victory. For the Jazz, Deron Williams had 30 points, and Mehmet Okur had 23 points and 11 rebounds.
Orlando 106 @ Denver 88 Pepsi Centre
The Orlando Magic continued their dominant road trip with a massive win over the short-handed Denver Nuggets. Hedo Turkoglu had 31 points, Jameer Nelson and Rashard Lewis had 23 apiece and Dwight Howard added 14 and 20 rebounds to smash the Carmelo Anthony-less Denver Nuggets. For the Nuggets, Chauncey Billups had 18 points, Linas Kleiza had 26 points and Kenyon Martin had 10.
Milwaukee 92 @ LA Clippers 101 STAPLES Centre
The Los Angeles Clippers received another injury in the game against the Milwaukee Bucks, but they didn’t let that stop them, cruising to a 9 point win against the inconsistent Bucks. Centre Marcus Camby sprained his ankle in the 4th, and he joins Baron Davis, Zach Randolph, Mike Taylor, Jason Hart and Chris Kaman on the Clipper’s injury list. Camby and Brian Skinner both contributed with 18 points and Mardy Collins had 12 points. For the Bucks, who were without Australian big man Andrew Bogut for the 2nd straight game, stuggled with 26 points to Richard Jefferson and 21 points to Michael Redd.
